Lake Waitaki Lodge Resort is located on the edge of Lake Waitaki, near the Waitaki Dam, providing stunning views out across the entire lake, and of the Dam itself.
Originally built in the 1930’s to house the Dam’s workers, Lake Waitaki village, comprises of several substantial houses that have been completely refurbished to comfortably accommodate families and large groups.

Lake Waitaki Guest Accommodations:
There are eight three-bedroom houses, all equipped with full kitchens for guests who prefer self-catering.
The stone houses were originally built for senior Dam workers, and later to house the permanent staff who would stay on to maintain and operate the dam.
Lake Waitaki Facilities:
Lake Waitaki’s main lodge houses the reception area, a communal billiards room, and communal formal lounge for guests to enjoy, as well as where you will find your hosts if they are needed.
Cafe Hydro, a licensed cafe and restaurant, is also on site to provide catering if required.
Lake Waitaki’s History
The Lake Waitaki Dam was the first – and last – Dam to be constructed in New Zealand, entirely from pick and shovel. The lake Waitaki Dam was a truly incredible feat of construction, and is of historic significance, both to the area, and to New Zealand’s social fabric established during the 1930’s depression.
Thanks to Meridian Energy, the Dam itself is open to the public to walk on and view close up.
